Vashi Cultural Associations Durgostsav steps into 5th year
27.7.09, Vashi - Vashi Sarbojonin Durgotsav Committee under the auspices of Vashi Cultural Association (VCA) would be celebrating the biggest Bengali annual event- 'Durgotsav 2009' from 24th September to 28th September at ICL Ground, Sector 15, Vashi. This will be the fifth consecutive year of celebration and venue is sprawling 80000 sq. ft. - ICL School Ground in Sector 15, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, being at the heart of the residential and commercial clusters of Vashi and is accessible from various directions including Palm Beach Road.
DURGOTSAV 2009 celebration will showcase various entertainment programme vide performances by top and well known contemporary artists from West Bengal. These colorful programmes would also include ethnic dance and art forms of Bengal, Songs by mellifluous young artistes, performances by top notch Bengali Band, and Bengali Drama performed by local talent.
VCA event philosophy is 'Amader Pujo', which means 'Our Pujo', organized with the sole aim to revive Bengali cultural tradition and create a mega social get together. The planned mandap of Durgotsav 2009 will be replica of the famous Kolkata's Town Hall. Tapas Biswas, President, VCA, says, "Kolkata's Town Hall stands as a symbol of heritage and pride. We are trying to air a feeling of nostalgia by putting up a model of Town Hall."
Over the years, the event has been attended by several thousand devotees and culture loving populace of different communities from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Mr. Tapash Biswas, President of VCA says, "Last year we recorded almost 30,000 footfalls everyday. People love the ambience of our Puja and we have new participants coming in every year." Durgotsav 2009 is expecting atleast 20% rise in overall visitors.
During the event, free "Bhog" is served for 3 Days i.e., on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, to all devotees.
The assembly of such a large number of affluent families in a single venue also provides an unique opportunity to various corporate Brands to promote and showcase their products /services. It has been found that such sustained exposures for days leave a lasting impression of the products / brands in the mind of the visitors which carries on even after the event.
