From the President's desk

Dear Members,

It gives me a great pleasure to announce the launch of www.vashiculturalassociation.com. On this occasion, I would like to briefly take you to run through the history of Vashi Cultural Association (VCA) and our aim behind forming an Association like this.

VCA was established by a few like minded people with an aim at nourishing the richness of Bengali culture. We felt a need to identify our cultural roots and hence we put together our thoughts and accumulated our strengths to build up an Association, which will ultimately enliven our rich Bengali culture and pull other like minded associates in Navi Mumbai. In fact the name 'Vashi Cultural Association' itself explains its ideology and purpose. It has been five years after the start and today VCA has managed to stand as a trusted aide and true cultural companion of Bengalis of Navi Mumbai. However I must say that we tasted this success because of our primary concern and a well directed effort to encourage comfortable participation, where people can experience a homely atmosphere.

We have adhered to some basic policies which include respecting our seniors and their feelings and encouraging participation of young companions, which can also be referred to as our inherent strength. Apart from this, the invisible cause of our progress is also participation of ladies members and I believe they will take this institution far ahead in times to come.

Among the various activities we celebrate throughout the year, Durgotsav is the most important programme. Apart from this, some of our other activities include celebrating Sri Lakshmi Puja and Sri Sarswati Puja, and many other cultural programmes like Holi, Bengali New Year, Varsha Mangal etc. Through these activities we have been trying to pull in more and more people together and thereby spread our Bengali culture in this part of metropolis.

Along with the cultural enlightenment, we understand our commitment towards the society and continuously strive to render our contribution towards its betterment. We have been seeking an active participation in various social causes and have always volunteered to combat against various ills including illiteracy, oppression towards women, damages due to natural calamities help the economically poor and nurturing the talent.

It is my firm belief that with the launch of this website we will be able to widespread our message to a wider audience, so that we may become centre of core and more like minded people. Let us assemble together to nurture the rich culture of Bengal. I invite one and all.

With warm regards

T. K. BISWAS
