History of Vashi Cultural Association
Necessity is the mother of Invention and Vashi Cultural Association (VCA) sprouted out from this sheer necessity. The surrounding Bengali cultural environment of Vashi was fast deteriorating and it was almost impossible to keep alive the rich heritage of Bengali culture. It was at this point, when few valiant Bengalis took the onerous responsibility to set the things right and formed VCA with their own financial contribution.
The deep down belief and the respect for the Bengali culture gave birth to VCA in 2005. The task to build up an association like this was no doubt a difficult endeavor at the beginning, where the founders had to revive a cultural awakening in the city. But considering the fact that these members were the same individuals, who already had experience in building the blocks for a Bengali association, the task was accomplished quite smoothly with positive results showing from the first year itself.
The first mega event of VCA was DURGOTSAV 2005. This event was first of its kind, where people were not just mere attendees. 'Everyone' who had an inclination towards culture joined hands with organizers to reach to successes. We believe that 'Probashi Bangali' or Bengalis who are away from the home town can enjoy social occasions like Durga Puja to their fullest if they are made a part of the celebration. Although this concept was in contrary to the regular events that were organized, yet this had become our winning forte and we received accolades and participation for this concept. So DURGOTSAV 2005 resulted as a celebration for citizens, which had never been witnessed and experienced anywhere in the vicinity.
Thus the journey of VCA started. Today, with every passing year, we are growing stronger, beaming alive with cultural ethos. With such a noble initiative, we have marched forward and are contributing and executing future plans to volunteer for several social causes.
